Ever since the defeat of Monsoon, Tama and his family have been on the run from a large group of dogs known as the Aka-Ari. This group have been travelling Japan to kill remaining dogs of the Ou Army under the belief that they have all been wiped out by the bears. Tama and his family are found and attacked by a squad of Aka-Ari soldiers, resulting in the deaths of Tonov, Jirōmaru and Kōta. Tama, Kinta and Reika escape, and go into hiding. One day, Tama meets Orion who has left Ou to find his mother, and informs him if the situation. Orion, in turn, tells Tama about his father's death and says that the Ou army will help defeat the Aka-Ari. Tama, Kinta and Reika are shortly discovered by the same squad who killed their siblings and a fight quickly breaks out. Tama mercilessly attacks the captain, despite Orion's orders not to.
Orion breaks the fight up and leaves with Tama and his family. He takes them to a friend called Hyena, now known as Noah, for their wounds to heal. Whilst under Noah's care, the brothers receive a message from him that a great disaster will fall and all dogs must work together to survive. Armed with this message, Tama and Kinta leave to deliver it, only to run into the Aka-Ari again, fighting the Ou Army. During the conflict, a small meteor strikes and causes destruction and chaos. During the confusion, Tama believes that Orion was killed by the three leaders of the Aka-Ari, led by Wanwan. Knocking his brother, Kinta, out so as not to have him hurt, Tama charges at the brothers to get revenge for Orion. The three brothers easily kill him and leave his mangled corpse in the burnt forest.
