Shin Hidaka is the middle son of Reiji Hidaka, the leader of a pack. He has an older brother called Tommy Hidaka and a younger brother called Sabu Hidaka.

Chōmon no Tabi[]
When his father left to fight against Akakabuto, Shin and his brothers stayed to watch over the pack and the territory.
Unfortunately, the nasty dog called Muramasa took over the pack and the leadership by using their mother as hostage. Muramasa started to rule with harsh and cruel way.
Tommy and Sabu left to get help from Ōu and find their father. Shin was too afraid to follow and decided to stay and take care of their mother. His brothers were caught almost instantly and killed. Shin was too afraid to go to help and feels very guilty because of this.
Later, Shin moves with his pack members in the border of their territory and sees Gin, Smith,and Chūtora across a river. He accuses them of murdering his brothers, believing that they're minions of the neighbor pack leader Zack. Shin eventually leaves when Zack and his minions appear. Shin hated Zack and Zack hated him too, believing that Shin caused all the cruelty while actually it was all Muramasa's doings.
A bit later, Gin is taken in as prisoner and meets Shin's mother who tells him everything. Muramasa orders Shin to kill Gin, but Gin calms him down. Shin finally finds out that his father is dead but also hears Gin's words about how his father believed in him.
Shin finds new courage and attacks Muramasa. The dogs of the pack follow him, seeing him as their true leader. Muramasa is defeated with the help of Gin and Zack. Shin became the new leader of the pack and great friends with his former enemy Zack.
