If you are open to it, I would love to chat on Discord about issues and concerns you may have with this wiki.
It shouldn't take too long, but hearing your side of things would definitely help me better understand what type of concerns our users may have. I know forking is not the first choice for anyone, but sometimes folks feel like they have no other option. I can look into some of your concerns to seek an alternative solution which may help.
Please let me know if this is something you are interested in! I value the experience you have with this platform, and would love to hear your feedback. We are always brainstorming ways to improve the user experience.
I don't see why we have to chat with you on discord. We have other things to do in our life than doing so. A message here will be enough.
First, this is a big reason why we are moving. All in all we have not the right to act as we wish in the wiki. If something happens what you disagree with, our opinion will never be important. And if something bothers you, we'll have to use our time to explain it to you. What actually is okay, but this goes to far with the discord thing. Tora already wrote you why we are moving and this should have been anough. But it's not, as we can see.
The other thing is that we are not able to adjust this wiki as we want to. We really don't like the space where we can add content. We'd like it to have more space to add content to an article without it being so constricted (more width). Also we want to have the possibility to adjust every single detail on the website. But here it is not possible. All in all we always have to base on the set layout.
One other thing is that we've got the feeling that MediaWiki seems more reliable to other people. I often heard people saying they like MediaWiki more that those free fandom wiki's, as they seem much more reliable as people who build the MediaWiki also pay for the wiki and because of that actually really care for the wiki. In our case, we really cared about this wiki as well, but it's about other people being more into MediaWiki than fandom wiki. Just like we are as well.
It was our own decision and I'm not happy about seeing fandom employees trying to persuade us to stay on this wiki. This is our decision and no one should try to force us or persuade us to stay here. And I'm also not amused to feel forced to discuss with you because of that, though we already told why we move.
I can undestand that you don't want to loose people, but this somehow is pushy. That's nothing what you have we power about, because it's only our decision.
That is my honest answer to why we are moving. That's not meant offending, it's just honest. And I hope this will be enough as an explanation to you.
To clarify, this was meant to be a "if you are interested" inquiry. By no means, is anyone required to answer. Sorry if I did not make that clear enough.
Most folks prefer Discord as a means to talk about more complex topics (due to the speed of it), but not necessary. We can talk here too, or honestly you do not need to reply to me at all.
I am more so trying to figure out what issues you or Tora may have experienced on the site so that I may report those issues to the folks who change things.
Forking is totally your choice, and I honestly support it if it is helping you get what you want right now.
From what I understand on your message, something may have happened in the past which has driven you to fork, and there has been miscommunication which has caused a great deal of mistrust. I am very sorry to hear that you believe your opinion does not matter, because my entire job is to listen to the community. I started after you already forked from the site, so I did not ever get the opportunity to get to know you or your community. I wish I had.
I also have noted your desire for complex customization. You are actually not alone in this. We are working on this during the UCP rollout as we update to the latest version of MediaWiki. If it piques your interst, there are a few staff blog posts from the recent months about our platform update coming this year.
I will leave this post at this though. The door is always open if you or Tora want to chat about upcoming platform changes, issues from the past, or even just to chat.
I want you to know that I appreciate your reply greatly. I hear you, and I will communicate your reasoning up the chain of command.
I'm a member of the WIki Managers team within the Fandom Staff, and I'm here to offer my collaboration with your wiki.
My role is to provide help and advice for any doubt your community may have regarding the management of the site, its tools, to fight vandalism, etc; and to serve as a liaison with a direct line of contact to full-time Fandom Staff.
My presence in the site is merely as a consultant and helper, I will not take part in the decision-taking of the community (except by giving guidance if users request it), and the direction of the site is still in the hands of the community and the administration team.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you require help in any of these aspects.
I have noticed that the administration team is in the process of migrating to a new site. It is very unfortunate that you have decided to leave Fandom, and I'd appreciate if you could tell me what has motivated you to take this decision. If you have any complaints or requests, I'll help with whatever is in my hands, or forward them to the corresponding people. It is very important for Fandom that users (and especially editors) feel comfortable using the site, so rest assured that any input will be taken seriously.
It is however the users' right to migrate to another wiki platform if they so wish, although I'd like to note that other users may still want to stay and continue collaborating with this wiki, therefore we should make sure to keep the content intact to allow further contribution. Users are free to add links to personal sites (which includes their own wikis) in areas destined to be utilized as user space (like their own profiles), but I have to ask that they're not introduced to the main space of the site destined for the wiki's content, which includes homepage, articles, and templates. If you could please remove the links to the new wiki that have been added to these areas and restore the content that was removed, that would be excellent.
I reiterate my disposition to help with anything that you and your community need, and I'm looking forward for opportunities to work together. Best regards.
We will be reverting all negative edits which were made on this wiki since July. Please take the time to review the upcoming changes to the platform. If you are interested in learning more, stay tuned!
Sorry for delayed answer.
When we decided to move, we did talk on what to do with articles and such and couldn't find where to read about what could've been done. So sorry for the fork! Will get onto reverse as soon as I can.
I understand now that link to the other Wiki is not okay to have on Main Page and such. But would it be okay to just have the info of it on the Main Page? Link in my own user space of course.
One of the reasons for the move is to get all fresh, and right in translation.
Glad to hear from you, Tora Collita. Don't worry about the reversions, I already took care of it. Perhaps you may check if I didn't miss something.
Zoe can give you a more adequate reply regarding the Main Page issue, but I'd like to get more details on the reasons you have provided, "to get all fresh, and right in translation". Is there's something we can do to help you with this?
If you want to renovate the wiki, I can see the possibility of requesting a revitalization project and assist you on anything you believe needs to be redesigned or improved. I'm not sure what you mean by the translation part, but there are chances that this is something we can help with too if you allow us.
Does new Ginga Wiki have Content Moderator or something? I'm glad that I help this wiki as my old username, Kitsune21, it's been my pride as Content Moderator and member of Ginga Wiki since I first edit this wiki, I will miss this old Ginga Wiki once new Ginga is open, it will been my new pride as new member for New Ginga Wiki :)
By the way, can I delete all pages of everything after all pages moving to new Wiki is finish? It will be last time for me to help this old Ginga Wiki before I help out at new Ginga Wiki.
Hi Kitsune97! It will be possible to make you an high valued helper again, but I don´t know yet if it will be called "content modertor". However, you will definetely get a special classification again :)
and of course you may help in deleting the old articles afterwards. But we will first start deleting when we completely moved.
I really appreciate your preparedness :) Thank you for all your help
Do we need to add images of Characters from GTFW for their infobox or no? I found Gallery of GTFW at Gingaboard, I dont think that GTLW and GTFW are not connect to each other. I don't like GTFW because it's not same art style under Yoshihiro Takahashi. I look forward to read Ginga Densetsu Noah after it's released Volume 1 of GDN.
