Don was one of the hunting dogs owned by Takeda Gohei. In the beginning of the story, Don follows his owner to the mountains with Riki and Aka on an expedition. However, the hunting party gets ambushed by the terrifying bear Akakabuto, who killed Don and his partner Aka. The manga shows that Don was not fully trained yet and abused by Gohei for "misbehaving".
